How to reduce your water footprint ?

Don’t lose a single drop !

In order to not let doom and gloom get you down, here are a few simple tips to reduce your water consump tion on a daily basis

  • Think about swapping meat based recipes by vegetarian meals. It takes 5 to 20 times more water to produce one kilogram of meat than one kilogram of cereals.

  • Install a water saving device in the toilet cistern. This can save up to 45 000 liters every year, or rather, the amount of water one per- son drinks in 25 years!

  • Return unused drugs to the chemist. Drugs thrown in the rubbish or down the toilets can contaminate the water cycle.
  • Use environment‐friendly hygiene and cleaning products as this will avoid the im- pact of tens of thousands of chemical subs- tances on our water resources.

  • Reduce the amount of bottled water you drink. Each year, 100 billion dollars are spent on buying water bottles. Just a quarter of this sum would be sufficient to supply drinking water to those who are deprived of it.

  • Use both sides of paper, and only print what is necessary! Don’t forget that it takes 10 liters of water to make one sheet of paper.

  • Spend less time under the shower, and ta- king baths should be banished! By reducing of 3 minutes the time you spend under your shower, you save around 35 liters of water every time, or, in other terms, 301 kg of CO2 in one year.

  • Use thermostatic mixing taps. These allow to regulate the temperature more quickly, the- refore saving between 10 and 30 % water.

  • Shut the tap! Water flows at the rate of around 10 liters a minute. If you leave the tap running while you brush your teeth, that’s about 10 000 liters wasted every year.
